Your own style, just a little different

Summer is almost over, and once again I’ll be spending more time indoors than in the garden.

I’m sitting in the living room, I look around and get the fidgets….

that painting has been there a long time, and the room could do with a bit of freshening up.

In a while, when autumn comes, leaves turn, and wind howls around the house, I’ll want to snuggle up in the warmth of my home.

I look again and think it’s time for a few new plants.

But what? I want something different, something special.

I really like green plants, in all shapes and sizes, but even among these I always seem to seek out something ‘extraordinary’, perhaps that’s more feeling than fact. Through a friend on Facebook I’ve become rather fond of Dracaenas. When I was a teenager, I had them in my room, along with Sansevierias and those popular hanging plants that looked like strings of green pearls, and the Chinese lantern plant.

Reminiscing in beautiful memories, I start googling.

Luckily, these days with the internet, inspiration is never far away. Online you can lose yourself in so many beautiful things.

Before I know it, I’ve got all kinds of websites open, rekindling youth sentiments, and I’ve even found those macramé plant hangers we all had in the 70s, which, by the way, have become quite fashionable again.

And then, all of a sudden, I’m back in 2015. This week I uploaded a film about the cyclamen Super Serie Petticoat. A cyclamen with very special blooms – different and unique. To enjoy the special splendour of these blooms to the full, it’s best hang them up or place them high so you can look ‘under her skirt’, as it were, doesn’t this bloom remind you of Marilyn Monroe? Marilyn, a true style icon in the 1950s, just as Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren and Marlene Dietrich were too, admired for who and what they were.

And just look at our contemporary style icons: Angelina Jolie, Kate Middleton and Jennifer Lawrence.

In a brand new commercial we see JLaw with Dior’s new lipstick.

The message is ‘Don’t be shy, shine.’

That fits in nicely with the message of our Super Serie Petticoat: ‘Being normal is boring’.

I grab my car keys, put on my coat and glance in the mirror.

My reflection demands a little lipstick and tells me to straighten my hair.

On impulse I do it differently….

Satisfied and full of expectation I head off to the garden centre and florist.

In my head I know what I want, what I feel is in my heart.

And so I choose my own style, just a little different….
